Biography

Mahlon Stewart is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He directs Clinical Education in the Columbia University Program in Physical Therapy and is a board-certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist. His research focuses on developing pre-operative exercise programs for patients undergoing liver transplantation, collaborating with the NewYork-Presbyterian team to reduce frailty and improve postoperative outcomes. Stewart has presented at various local and national conferences on the topics of clinical education and the health-related quality of life for the 'oldest-old' residents in New York City. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association–New York and the New Jersey Clinical Education Consortium, and previously chaired the Research Committee. His efforts are also directed towards community health leadership, having served as the founding President and Board Chair of Neighbor2Neighbor, an organization dedicated to supporting older adults who wish to age in place. Stewart obtained his PhD in Health Promotion and Wellness from Rocky Mountain University and has a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Columbia University. His educational background also includes a BA in Art History from Trinity College and a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health Certificate from New York University.
