Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shayyah

Biography

Mahmoud Shayyah is a graduate student in the Master of Science in Human Ecology program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, focusing on the challenges faced by Syrian youth and young adults affected by war. Originally from Syria, he has transitioned from a career in English language education to humanitarian work due to the impacts of the Syrian war. His experiences span working with national and international NGOs, including the UN, primarily focusing on aiding refugees in Turkey and Syria. He has completed extensive emergency response training in various countries, including Norway and Jordan, and has participated in the National NGO Program in Humanitarian Leadership at Harvard University. His ultimate objective is to establish a humanitarian organization dedicated to facilitating the rebuilding of educational opportunities for children and young adults in war-torn contexts. His academic background includes degrees in English literature and a professional certificate in education from the University of Aleppo.
