Biography

Mahraz Parvand is a Medical Student Trainee in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Science degree in Experimental Medicine. Currently enrolled at the Vancouver Campus, she is pursuing a medical degree expected to be conferred in 2024. Her master's research focused on utilizing C. elegans to investigate the genetic underpinnings of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases. Since 2014, she has been actively involved in basic and clinical research, publishing extensively across diverse areas such as neuroscience, cardiology, and otolaryngology. Currently, her research interests center on gender disparities in ophthalmology, where she is actively working on case reports. In addition to her academic pursuits, she enjoys playing competitive tennis, traveling to new destinations, and exploring the local culinary scene in Vancouver.
