Biography

Mahta Moghaddam received her B.S. degree (with highest distinction) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1986, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989 and 1991, respectively. She joined the USC Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering in January 2012 after a notable career at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology, where she worked from 1991 to 2003. At JPL, she contributed to the Radar Science Engineering Section and was involved in advanced missions, including the Cassini Radar Science Team. Dr. Moghaddam's research focuses on innovative approaches and algorithms for quantitative interpretation of multichannel radar imagery, applying analytical inverse scattering techniques to complex random media. She has made significant advancements in multisensor data fusion, integrating radar and optical remote sensing data to enhance nonlinear estimation of vegetation surface parameters. Additionally, she has led the development of new radar instrumentation for subsurface characterization, highlighting her commitment to sustainability and advanced measurement technologies.
