Biography

Mahtot Gebresselassie is an Assistant Professor at York University, specializing in urban planning, smart mobility, and transportation equity. With a PhD from Virginia Tech, she has a strong focus on understanding how transportation systems influence the lives of people with disabilities and marginalized communities. Her research examines the intersection of urban design, technology, and social issues, particularly in relation to Uber and Lyft services. Gebresselassie's work leverages qualitative and quantitative methodologies to address complex urban challenges, advocating for equitable access in transportation. She has collaborated on various research projects, such as analyzing the impact of extreme weather on travel behavior and exploring the differences in travel patterns between older adults and individuals with disabilities. Her scholarly contributions include multiple publications in prominent interdisciplinary journals like Transportation Research and Urban Science. Gebresselassie is also involved in graduate supervision, guiding students in Geography, Science, Technology & Society (STS) programs.
