Mai Bay Stie is currently a Postdoc in Drug Delivery Biophysics at the University of Copenhagen. She holds a master's degree in Biochemistry Molecular Biology from the University of Southern Denmark. Her research project focuses on the development of saliva-repellent, mucoadhesive nanofiber-based hybrid systems for the sublingual delivery of biopharmaceuticals. The increasing number of pharmaceuticals based on biological origin molecules such as proteins and peptides often encounter issues related to poor physical and chemical stability, as well as low membrane permeability, leading to injections being the primary route of administration. The goal of her research is to create a new drug delivery platform that targets the sublingual mucosa, based on the hypothesis that bioavailability can be enhanced by forming hybrid systems that include a saliva repellent film and drug-loaded electrospun nanofibers. She aims to develop and evaluate the performance of this proposed drug delivery platform.
