Biography

Maiken H. Mikkelsen is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. She received her B.S. in Physics from the University of Copenhagen in 2004 and her Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2009. After her doctoral studies, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley before joining Duke University in 2012. Her research focuses on the exploration of nanophotonics and new quantum materials, which are designed to enable transformative breakthroughs in areas such as optoelectronics and quantum science while also addressing environmental and health challenges. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Maria Goeppert Mayer Award from the American Physical Society and various Young Investigator Program awards from multiple defense and research agencies.
