Dr. Maiken Mikkelsen

Biography

Maiken H. Mikkelsen is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Copenhagen in 2004 and completed her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2009. Following her doctoral studies, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, before joining Duke University in 2012. Her research focuses on nanophotonics and the development of new quantum materials, with the goal of facilitating transformative breakthroughs in optoelectronics, quantum science, environmental applications, and human health. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Maria Goeppert Mayer Award from the American Physical Society, the NSF CAREER award, and the Moore Inventor Fellow award from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Mikkelsen has also participated in various young investigator programs and has held numerous research grants from the Office of Naval Research, the Army Research Office, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
