Biography

Professor Mairi Sakellariadou gained a Bachelor Degree (B.Sc.) in Mathematics from the University of Athens, studied Astrophysics at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, and obtained a Certificate in Post-graduate Studies and a Master of Sciences (M.Sc.). Continuing her education, she pursued her Ph.D. in Physics at Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA. Before joining King's College London in 2005 as a Reader, Prof. Sakellariadou held research positions at several institutions, including the Université Libre de Bruxelles and CERN. She was appointed Professor of Theoretical Physics in 2011. Her research emphasis lies in theoretical physics and cosmology, focusing on the physics of the early universe, as well as the intersection of cosmology, theoretical particle physics, and gravitational theories. Notably, she contributes to advancements in Noncommutative Spectral Geometry, String/M-theory Cosmology, and Loop Quantum Cosmology. Prof. Sakellariadou has also held various administrative roles, including being the elected President of the Hellenic Society for Relativity, Gravitation, and Cosmology.
