Professor Majid Safari received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2011. He currently serves as a Professor in optical wireless communications and is the Deputy Head of the Institute of Imaging and Data Communications (IDCoM) at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Professor Safari has authored and co-authored more than 150 research papers. His main research interests encompass applications of optics, information theory, signal processing, optical wireless, and quantum communications. Currently, he is engaged in designing 6G Optical wireless networks as part of the EPSRC program grant TOWS, developing single-photon avalanche diode-based receivers for classical communication, and designing novel communication schemes for nonlinear long-haul fibre-optic channels. He is also an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Communication Letters. He has been a recipient of the Mitacs Fellowship in Canada, as well as prestigious grants from the Leverhulme Trust and EPSRC in the UK. Additionally, he has received Paper Awards from IEEE GLOBECOM 2022 and IEEE ICC 2023.
