Dr. Majorie Van Duursen

Biography

Majorie van Duursen is a toxicologist specializing in Environmental Health and Toxicology, currently serving as a Full Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on improving the health of mothers and children by investigating the effects of potential toxicants on female health and child development. She is dedicated to understanding and mitigating the risks of environmental contaminants on children's health. Van Duursen actively participates in national and international projects, particularly those funded by the EU, assessing the toxicological impact of endocrine disruptors. She also works on translating her findings into practical policies aimed at encouraging healthy living from an early age. As the coordinator of the EU-funded FREIA project, she is at the forefront of developing evidence-based screening approaches for endocrine disrupting chemicals. Her academic background includes a PhD in Toxicology from Universiteit Utrecht, where her research involved estrogen metabolizing enzymes and their role in carcinogenesis. She has been recognized for her contributions to the field through various awards and is actively involved in numerous expert committees and working groups related to endocrine disruption and toxicology.
