Biography

Makayla-May Brinckley is a Wiradjuri woman from Cootamundra, NSW. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science (Psychology Honours) from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2019. Following her graduation, she worked as a research assistant at the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Program, part of the Research School of Population Health. She is now a PhD student and Research Associate at the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing. Makayla is actively involved in the Mayi Kuwayu: National Study of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing and has a strong commitment to the holistic health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, employing a strengths-based decolonial approach in her research. Her work has been centered on understanding cultural determinants of health and preventive health measures, particularly in Indigenous communities.
