Dr. Malachi Hacohen

Biography

Malachi H. Hacohen is a Professor of History and Religion at Duke University. He is the Director of the Religions and Public Life Initiative at the Kenan Institute for Ethics. Hacohen holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and has previously taught at notable institutions including Columbia University, New York University, and Reed College. His research interests are centered on Jewish intellectual history, particularly within a European context. He focuses on social theory and political issues in Central Europe, contributing significantly to the understanding of Jewish identity and history in modern life. Hacohen has also received grants such as the Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation for his work on historical formation in human rights. He is a Bass Fellow at Duke University and holds affiliations with the faculties of Jewish Studies and Slavic Eurasian Studies, emphasizing his interdisciplinary approach to history and religion.
