Malavika Nair is a Professor in Biomaterials at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford. She obtained her BA and MSci in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge between 2012 and 2016, followed by a PhD from 2016 to 2019. Her doctoral research focused on the multiscale characterization of ice-templated collagen scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. After her PhD, Malavika undertook post-doctoral research in 2020, where she combined machine learning techniques with experimental biomaterials datasets, leading to a research fellowship at Emmanuel College. Since then, her work has transitioned to developing electroactive biomaterials for applications in tissue regeneration. In 2022, she joined the Oxford Institute of Biomedical Engineering to further her research on electroactive biomaterials for bio-stimulation, bio-sensing, and drug delivery. Malavika is also actively involved in teaching undergraduate courses in Engineering Science, including topics such as Ordinary Differential Equations, Engineering Alloys, Polymers, Biomechanics, and Cellular Physiology. Her recent publications focus on the development and study of various biomaterials, including the use of resazurin-based assays for measuring cell viability in 3D cell culture and the properties of collagen scaffolds in tissue engineering endeavors. Malavika is passionate about bridging the gap between existing electronic devices and healthcare solutions, with an emphasis on creating optimized medical devices.
