Malcolm Tulip is an Associate Professor in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the Stamps School of Art & Design. He obtained a degree in Dance & Art from the University of London, Goldsmiths’ College in 1980, and a diploma from École Jacques Lecoq in Paris in 1984. With decades of experience as a freelance actor, director, and writer, Tulip has performed extensively in festivals and tours across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the U.S., including his work with the Gelati Theatre Co. and Theatre Grottesco. His artistic endeavors are inspired by his early involvement in performance from a young age, focusing on the fusion of physicality and dramatic experience. He has studied with world-renowned teacher Jacques Lecoq, developing a distinctive approach that incorporates various disciplines such as choreography, sculpture, architecture, and psychology into his work. In 1990, Tulip founded the Prospero Theatre Co., where he wrote and directed several new works that explored inventive narratives and theatrical forms. He has served as an Associate Artist at Performance Network Theatre in Ann Arbor and has grappling experience with a wide dramatic repertoire, having directed classic works by playwrights such as Pinter and Brecht, while also teaching multiple courses at the Department of Theatre & Drama.
