Biography

Malgorzata Graul is a Postdoctoral fellow in Marta Bally’s group in the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Umeå University. She completed her PhD studies in Virology after studying Biotechnology at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology at the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdansk in Poland. Her research is centered on analyzing immune evasion mechanisms in bovine herpesvirus 1. The emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic sparked her interest in RNA viruses, and in October 2022, she joined the Bally lab to investigate the interaction of coronaviruses and filoviruses with cell surfaces. Currently, she is working on determining the anti-coronavirus potential of compounds designed to block N-glycosylation in the maturation of viral proteins. Her contributions to the field include publications in notable journals such as Analytical Chemistry, where she explores variant-specific interactions with the plasma membrane and their impacts on binding kinetics of SARS-CoV-2. Graul continues to collaborate on important projects aimed at the advancement of virology research in Umeå.
