Malgorzata Stelmaszyk is a Post-Doctorate Research Associate in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester, working on the ERC funded project entitled Cosmological Visionaries-COSMOVIS. She completed her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2018, where she conducted ethnographic research focusing on shamanic practices in post-Soviet Tuva. Her work explores the transformative qualities of sound and music within shamanic rituals and the animistic relationships inherent in these practices. Her research interests include shamanic practice, sound studies, visual anthropology, post-colonialism, and animism as well as addiction studies. Currently, she is expanding on her PhD research by examining the effects of climate change on animistic beliefs and practices among indigenous communities in the Amur and Khabarovsk regions, specifically the Nanai and Eveny peoples. Her investigations look into the unique knowledges and practices that arise from merging scientific approaches to better understand climate change.
