Dr. Mallika Bose

Biography

Mallika Bose is a Professor and the Associate Dean for Research, Creative Activity, and Graduate Studies in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State University. She holds degrees in architecture and urban planning from prestigious institutions including Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, as well as a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research revolves around understanding the social structures and behaviors influenced by the built environment, focusing on active living, public scholarship, community-based design, gender development, and design pedagogy. She has served as the interim director and director of the Hamer Center for Community Design at Penn State and has been a board director of the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), where she previously chaired the board. Her scholarly work has been published in various renowned journals such as the Journal of Architecture and Planning Research and Habitat International, among others, and she has co-edited a book titled 'Community Matters: Service-learning Engaged Design Planning'.
