Biography

Malte Asseln received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Medical Technology from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 2012, followed by his doctorate, awarded 'summa cum laude' in 2018 from the Biomechanics group at the Chair of Medical Engineering. His research visit at NYU Langone Health focused on Implant Design in Orthopedic Surgery. He has contributed significantly to medical device safety and standardization in Germany. In 2022, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, where he focuses on Biomedical Device Design and Production. His research interests include understanding the interaction of the musculoskeletal system with orthopedic medical devices and innovating personalized solutions for implants, prostheses, and orthoses. Malte is dedicated to teaching and has supervised over 40 students at the bachelor and master levels. He actively participates in conferences and has earned numerous accolades for his work, including the Klee Prize from the German Society for Biomedical Engineering. His expertise spans several areas, including biomechanics, ergonomic design, and medical regulatory frameworks.
