Biography

Malte Rothhämel graduated from Technical University Dresden, Germany, with a Diplom-Ingenieur, equivalent to a Master of Engineering. He undertook an industrial PhD focusing on active steering systems for heavy trucks at Scania, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden. Following a month-long motorcycle trip with his family, he served as a guest researcher at Volkswagen Global Research in Wolfsburg, Germany, where he worked on fail-operational chassis concepts for automated heavy vehicles. With over 3.5 years spent in the development of active steering and back-up steering systems for heavy trucks, he contributed significantly to the integration of braking and steering systems in automated vehicles. In 2020, Malte joined KTH in Stockholm as an Assistant Professor in Vehicle System Technology, expanding his research interests to include human-powered vehicles. He currently supervises PhD students and teaches various courses related to vehicle engineering.
