Professor Dr. Malumbo Chipofya

Biography

Malumbo Chipofya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management at the University of Twente. His research has focused on the application of Qualitative Spatial Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, spatial map alignment, and the modeling of customary non-statutory land tenure systems in contrast to modern legal land tenure categories. Chipofya employs Computer Vision techniques for semantic sketch understanding, particularly applied to land tenure mapping. He utilizes methods such as Graph matching and Knowledge representation ontology modeling, using OWL and Answer Set Programming. His technical work increasingly incorporates tools for decentralized systems, including hashtable-based data distribution techniques and consensus model algorithms. His expertise aligns with Earth and Planetary Sciences, Land Rights, Cartography, Social Sciences, and Computer Science models of application.
