Biography

Mamoru Ishii is the Walter Zinn Distinguished Professor in Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1971, and holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from New York University and Yokohama National University, respectively. His research interests include two-phase flow experiments, modeling research, and the development of interfacial area transport equations in multiphase flow systems. He is particularly focused on advanced light water reactor safety code development and has engaged in safety analysis for both Light Water Reactors (LWR) and Liquid Metal Fast Breeders (LMFBR). His expertise includes severe accident analysis and interfacial transfer phenomena. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and is affiliated with various professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Sigma Xi, and the Atomic Energy Society of Japan, where he serves as an honorary member of the Japanese Society for Multiphase Flow.
