Biography

Dr. Baker completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Leisure Studies and Recreation Management, specializing in Therapeutic Recreation. She later pursued her doctoral dissertation at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. During her time in Australia, she taught a variety of courses in the Department of Tourism, Sport and Leisure Management and managed a 240-bed catered residence at Head College. Dr. Baker teaches a range of leisure-related courses, including sociology, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), hospitality, leisure marketing, and foundational studies and qualitative research methods. Her work delves into the sociological concepts around ethical and sustainable leadership education, with a focus on DEI practices, gender, and family leisure studies. Mandi collaborates extensively with summer camp providers and industry decision-makers. She is a member of the Research Evaluation Committee of the American Camps Association and serves on the Governing Board of Outward Bound Vietnam. Additionally, she co-hosts a podcast, "Pudding," which explores summer camp research and is a regular speaker at industry conferences and training sessions. Mandi serves on the editorial boards of the World Leisure Journal and the Journal of Youth Development.
