Dr. Mandy Truong

Biography

Mandy Truong is a public health researcher and educator with extensive professional experience in qualitative and mixed methods research. Her work focuses on cultural competency in healthcare, racism, and the well-being of refugee and migrant populations. As a Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Family Studies, she contributes to the Child and Family Evidence team. Dr. Truong has a robust background in teaching and research in cultural competence, safety in healthcare practices, and organizational change. With 17 years of clinical experience as a registered optometrist, she has conducted rigorous qualitative research with children and adults from diverse cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. Her research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, addressing global issues such as education and health equity. Dr. Truong holds multiple degrees from the University of Melbourne, including a Doctor of Philosophy focused on cultural competence in community health. She has held positions at Deakin University as an Honorary Fellow and has served as a Senior Project Officer at the Menzies School of Health Research, contributing to various projects aimed at improving healthcare for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
