Dr. Manju Puri

Biography

Manju Puri is the J.B. Fuqua Professor at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. She has previously held the position of Associate Professor of Finance at Stanford Business School after earning her Ph.D. in Finance from New York University and her MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Her expertise lies in empirical corporate finance, with a focus on financial intermediation. Her research encompasses commercial banks, investment banks, venture capital, entrepreneurship, behavioral finance, and FinTech. Puri's work on banking analyzes traditional and relationship banking as well as new developments in payment firms and the implications for financial inclusion. She has published extensively in top journals like the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance, with a record of 30 refereed papers. Her research has received numerous accolades, including the Sloan Research Fellowship and multiple paper awards from the Financial Management Association and Western Finance Association. Puri is an Editor for the Review of Financial Studies and has served in various leadership roles, including President of the Western Finance Association. She has consulted for governments and organizations worldwide and has participated in congressional testimony and advisory roles for several financial institutions.
