Biography

Manolete Mora is an Associate Professor and the Convenor of the Bachelor of Music program at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He obtained his PhD in ethnomusicology from Monash University in Melbourne. He has been recognized as an Andrew Mellon Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests encompass the music of the Philippines, Indonesia, Ghana, and China, focusing on ethnography and popular music. He has published extensively in musicological and anthropological journals, and his notable works include a monograph on Filipino indigenous music published with Ateneo de Manila University Press in 2005, which received the National Book Award in Folklore in 2006. Additionally, he has served as a consultant on UNESCO projects involving Tibetans and Mongolians in China. His performance activities include participation in Balinese gamelan and Afro-Cuban music. Current projects explore Southeast Asian epic songs, particularly the T'boli Tudbulol of Mindanao, as well as the changing music culture of the Riau Islands in Indonesia.
