Manos Tsakiris completed his undergraduate studies in Classical Philology at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2016, followed by an MSc in 2017 and a PhD in Classics in 2022 from the University of Edinburgh. He will begin his lectureship in Ancient Greek Language and Literature at the University of Manchester in September 2024, having previously held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Studies in the Humanities and taught Greek at the University of Edinburgh. With experience teaching Classical Association Scotland's Short Courses at the University of Glasgow, his research focuses on Hellenistic poetry. His doctoral project examined the generic articulation of Apollonius Rhodius’ Argonautica, aiming to define its generic identity. Tsakiris has written articles on Greek epic poetry during the Imperial era, with a particular emphasis on Triphiodorus’ Sack of Troy and Quintus of Smyrna. His interests encompass interdisciplinary approaches to Classics, investigating how individuals represent spatial interactions within the context of Apollonius’ and Theocritus’ poetry using tools from phenomenology and cognitive science. He currently teaches courses on the erotics of Ancient Greek literature, Hellenistic poetry, Greek tragedy, as well as Intensive Greek.
