Biography

Manu Shankar-Hari trained in Intensive Care Medicine in London, completing his MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He earned his PhD in Immunology from the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology at King's College London, UK. His research program focuses on precision immunomodulation for critically ill adults suffering from sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He leads the globally unique TRAITS Programme, which aims to understand and modify biological networks that generate clinical phenotypes in critical illness. His lab investigates the immunobiology and epidemiology of critical illness and the observable immunological abnormalities that can be treated to improve patient outcomes. Shankar-Hari has received several honors, including the Lowry Fink Fellowship from the International Sepsis Forum in 2019 and recognition as a Global Rising Star in Intensive Care by the Australia New Zealand Intensive Care Society in 2017. He is active in various research and clinical committees and collaborates with several prominent researchers in his field.
