Biography

Manu Shankar-Hari trained in Intensive Care Medicine in London and holds a MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as well as a PhD in Immunology from the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology at King's College London, UK. He was appointed as a consultant physician in Intensive Care Medicine at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2009. Recognized for his work, he was awarded the NIHR Clinician Scientist Fellowship in 2016 to investigate the long-term health consequences of sepsis survivors and to conduct a clinical trial aimed at reducing the long-term healthcare burden on adult sepsis survivors. In 2022, he was appointed Chair of Translational Critical Care Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on precision immunomodulation for critically ill adults, particularly in the context of sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The lab aims to identify and modify biological networks that are linked to clinical phenotypes and aims to translate these findings into clinical trials to improve patient outcomes.
