Biography

Manuel Enrique Hernandez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Translational Sciences and Research Associate Professor in Kinesiology and Community Health at Illinois University. His research focuses on computational neuroscience, specifically the investigation of risk factors for injury and disability, performance in goal-directed movements, and age-related changes in postural control and gait dysfunction in older adults with neurological disorders. He employs techniques such as non-linear dynamical analysis of short noisy time series data to study the behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying these phenomena. Hernandez has a strong educational background, having obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2012, his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering (Biomechanics Concentration) from the same institution in 2005, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 2003. In addition to his teaching and research, he is affiliated with several centers and institutes, including the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology and the Center for Social and Behavioral Science.
