Biography

Dr. Manuel Mattheisen is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University. He received his MD from the University of Bonn and has joint appointments in the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Community Health and Epidemiology. Dr. Mattheisen also serves as an Adjunct Professor at LMU in Germany and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. His research is centered around genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and molecular genetics, with a particular focus on translating genetic findings into clinical diagnostics and care within global mental health contexts. He collaborates closely with partners in East and South Asia, Africa, North and South America, and Europe. His laboratory is dedicated to identifying genetic risk factors for complex traits through large-scale studies, characterizing genetic predictors of disease onset and treatment response, evaluating patient-oriented factors affecting clinical implementation, and developing robust biostatistical and bioinformatic methods and tools. Dr. Mattheisen's work integrates knowledge from phenomics, molecular genetics, and biostatistics to address significant challenges in health.
