After postdoctoral work in Professor Tom Muir’s lab at Princeton, he developed chemical biology tools for studying chromatin-modifying enzymes. In 2016, Manuel was awarded the Sir Henry Dale Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust and the Royal Society to launch his independent research group at King’s College London. His research focuses on post-translational modifications and synthetic protein chemistry. Manuel has been recognized for his contributions to the field, receiving awards including the RSC Norman Heatley Award in 2021. He teaches advanced topics in molecular biology and chemistry and supervises various undergraduate and master's research projects. His research laboratory collaborates with postgraduate researchers to explore the biochemical processes of protein modifications, particularly in relation to cellular aging and cancer biology.
