Dr. Manuel Penades Fons

Biography

Manuel Penades Fons is a Reader in International Commercial Law at King's College London’s Dickson Poon School of Law, which he joined in September 2016. He has an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Bachelor’s degrees in Law and Business Studies from the University of Valencia, Spain. His PhD focused on the relationship between international commercial arbitration and cross-border insolvency proceedings. Prior to King’s, Manuel worked at the London School of Economics, the University of Warwick, and the University of Valencia. He is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and an abogado in Spain, holding two legal qualifications. With years of experience in a major arbitration firm in London, he has served as a clerk at the Commercial Court in Valencia and is actively involved in international commercial arbitration and litigation cases, serving as a consultant and expert witness. His research interests lie in international arbitration, cross-border insolvency law, conflict of laws, and commercial contracts, with a focus on legal intersections that arise within these fields. He regularly teaches courses in Private International Law, Contract Law, and International Commercial Arbitration. His research includes various publications on arbitration agreements and EU law.
