Manuel Puppis is a full professor in media structures and governance at the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Fribourg and serves as vice-president of the Federal Media Commission (COFEM). He holds a doctorate and a master's degree in Communication Science from the University of Zurich. His research interests include media policy, regulation, and governance, media systems in comparative perspective, digitization and platformization of public space, media organizations and journalism, as well as media economics and critical political economy. He has been invited as a resident researcher at the Annenberg School for Communication for the Fall semester of 2012. He was also a member of the expert committees MSI-REF and MSI-RES of the Council of Europe from 2020 to 2023.
