Biography

Manuela Mahecha Alzate is a PhD candidate in Political Economy at the University of Geneva, working as a teaching assistant in the Department of History, Economics, and Society. Under the supervision of Professor Bruno Amable since August 2021, her thesis focuses on characterizing the Dominant Social Bloc's accumulation regime in Colombia from 2002 to 2020. Alzate adopts a neorealist approach, analyzing the political support dynamics provided by various social groups benefitting from the accumulation regime. Her research delves into the rupture of this bloc, which has precipitated social uprisings that began on November 21, 2019, and gained momentum on April 28, 2021. Before her doctoral studies, she graduated from the Economic Policies in the Age of Globalization (EPOG) master's program and holds degrees in Economic Analysis and Policy from Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, International Economics from the Berlin School of Economics and Law, and Business Administration from Muenster University of Applied Sciences. Additionally, she has a degree in Economics from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana Medellín.
