Biography

Mara Marin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria, specializing in Political Theory. She obtained her PhD from the University of Chicago in 2008. Her research interests include Political Theory, Feminist Theory, Critical Race Theory, and critiques of capitalism. She explores the intersections of gender, race, and class within structures of oppression, aiming to understand and dismantle these injustices through collective action and legal reform. Dr. Marin's notable works include the book 'Connected Commitment' (2017, Oxford University Press), which discusses the relationship between oppressive structures and social responsibility. Her current projects include 'Structural Agency, Structural Obligations,' which critiques individualist views of action against structural injustice, and 'Race Social Structure,' analyzing solidarity in anti-racist efforts amidst social divisions. Marin has authored several articles in prestigious journals and has presented her research at numerous conferences. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Political Theory and Advanced Topics in Political Theory at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
