Biography

Maral Mousavi joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California in 2019 as an assistant professor. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Sharif University of Technology and completed her PhD studies at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining USC, Maral was a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of Prof. George Whitesides at Harvard University's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, working on affordable diagnostic devices to make healthcare analysis accessible. Her research interests encompass point-of-care diagnostics, electrochemical sensors, wearable devices, neural probes, and tools for precision medicine, focusing on addressing health disparities through the development of innovative diagnostic tools and mechanistic studies. Maral has received numerous accolades for her contributions, including the NIH Director's New Innovator Award, the 3M Nontenured Faculty Award, and several others related to diversity and innovation in research. Additionally, she is dedicated to addressing disparities in graduate education and has founded a YouTube channel called 'Surviving Thriving Higher Education', aimed at providing accessible training tutorials and strategies for maintaining well-being in graduate education.
