Dr. Marc Olivier Coppens

Biography

Marc-Olivier Coppens is a distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at University College London, where he also serves as the Ramsay Memorial Chair. He earned his Master’s and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Ghent University, Belgium, graduating summa cum laude in both. His academic journey includes significant positions as a Postdoc and Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, and roles at Delft University of Technology, where he was a Full Professor specializing in Chemical Reactor Engineering and Catalysis. His contributions further extend to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he held the position of Full Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering. He has been instrumental in advancing interdisciplinary engineering as the Vice-Dean at UCL and has founded the EPSRC 'Frontier Engineering' Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering, directing research to solve pressing challenges in engineering. His notable international affiliations include honorary professorships and visiting scholar roles, fostering collaborations across leading institutions in the US and China.
