Biography

Marc D. Bahlmann is currently employed as an assistant professor (tenured) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, in the Management Organization department of the School of Business and Economics. His research primarily focuses on irrational decision-making related to innovation decisions. Notably, he has investigated how venture capitalists' investments in startups are influenced by physical attractiveness and ethnic backgrounds of the entrepreneurs, as well as the effect of venture capitalists' own attractiveness on risk-taking behaviors. Bahlmann examines irrational innovation decisions made by CEOs and Top Management Teams. His research has been published in reputable journals, including the Journal of Economic Geography and Industrial & Corporate Change. In addition to his research, Marc teaches various courses at the Bachelor's and Master's levels, oversees the Amsterdam Research Project that provides opportunities for Master's students to conduct market research in emerging markets, and has served on the advisory board of the IJGC since 2019.
