Biography

Marc Dumont is an Environmental Microbiologist with a wide range of research interests primarily focused on methane-oxidizing bacteria and their extended roles in biogeochemical cycles, ecology, environmental health, antibiotic resistance, and potential applications in sustainable agriculture. Originally from Canada, he studied microbiology at McGill University and later moved to the UK to pursue a PhD at the University of Warwick, concentrating on the diversity, mutagenesis, and recombinant expression of the soluble methane monooxygenase enzyme. After several years in Marburg, Germany, as a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, he returned to the UK in 2015 to take his current position at the University of Southampton. He has authored more than 70 research articles and book chapters and co-authored a book on stable isotope probing methods. Currently, he sits on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, including Frontiers in Terrestrial Microbiology and Frontiers in Soil Biology.
