Dr. Marc Föcking

Biography

Marc Föcking is a professor of Italian and French literary studies at the University of Hamburg. His research focuses on Italian Renaissance and Baroque literature from Petrarch to Marino, dialogue and dialogue theory, and French classical theater. He also explores the aesthetics of Italian literature from the 18th century, as well as lyric poetry and novels from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including significant authors like Leopardi and Svevo. Föcking has been involved in various academic roles, including as a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Heidelberg. His distinguished career includes a position as managing director of the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Hamburg and leadership roles within the German Association of Italian Studies. He has been an active contributor to research projects and academic committees related to Renaissance studies and intermedial relations among literature, music, and the sciences. His substantial experience also encompasses participation in editorial boards of several scholarly journals.
