Dr. Marc Hammarlund

Biography

Marc Hammarlund conducts research in the field of genetics, focusing on neuronal degeneration and regeneration. His doctoral work, under the supervision of Erik Jorgensen, concentrated on the mechanisms of synaptic transmission. Following this, he completed his postdoctoral studies with Mike Bastiani, where he made significant contributions to understanding the DLK pathway in axon regeneration in Caenorhabditis elegans. He now leads the Hammarlund lab, which aims to explore fundamental mechanisms of neuronal cell biology and to advance our understanding of nerve regeneration. His work involves detailed studies on neuronal cell fate and the cellular processes governing regeneration, making contributions to the broader field of neuroscience and genetics. Hammarlund's lab continues to push the boundaries of knowledge in these critical areas of medical research, examining the genetic underpinnings of neuronal behavior and development.
