Dr. Marc Kanchuger

Biography

Marc S. Kanchuger, MD, is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Performance Improvement in the Department of Anesthesiology at NYU Langone Health. He specializes in Cardiac Anesthesiology and has a strong focus on stroke risk associated with cardiac surgery. With an education that includes an MD from New York University and extensive training in anesthesiology and transplant surgery from the School of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook, Dr. Kanchuger has a solid foundation in anesthetic practices and patient care in the perioperative setting. His research examines the incidence of major strokes during cardiac surgery, which can range from 2-8%, further complicating surgical outcomes. Dr. Kanchuger is involved in multicenter studies aiming to identify and mitigate risk factors for adverse CNS outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac procedures. His work has contributed to the understanding of stroke risk factors, including atherosclerotic disease of the ascending aorta, and innovative techniques such as echocardiography and transcranial Doppler to detect micro-embolisms during surgery.
