Biography

Marc Roston is a Senior Research Scholar at the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability, where he leads research efforts in carbon accounting and carbon markets, as well as the transitions of financial institutions to climate-related insurance markets. Prior to joining Stanford in 2020, he spent 25 years in the asset management industry, holding senior investment positions across quantitative equity, private equity, and various sectors. His focus includes advising financial institutions of all sizes on a diverse range of investment activities, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of insurance, hedge funds, and private equity. Roston has served on boards of both public and private companies, investment committees for endowments and foundations. Before establishing his investment advisory firm from 2004 to 2008, he was a Managing Director, chairing the investment committee and heading risk management at a large alternative investment firm. Additionally, he managed a financial services private equity fund launched by banks and insurance companies, and previously led equity strategies at a global consulting firm's investment arm. Roston began his career managing quantitative long/short equity at a major global bank.
