Biography

Marc Strous is a Professor and NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Geomicrobiology at the University of Calgary. He specializes in groundwater microbiology, focusing on how microbes interact with biogeochemical processes and the cycling of elements. His lab conducts research on the biogeography of bacteria and the adaptation of cyanobacteria and protists to extreme environments, particularly in alkaline soda lakes. He has a robust educational background with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, where he also obtained his MSc. He has also been recognized with the ISME Young Investigators Award from the International Society for Microbial Ecology in both 2010 and 2019.
