Biography

Marc Therrien is a professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Pathology at the University of Montreal, where he leads a research team studying the mechanisms involved in cellular proliferation and differentiation, particularly those regulated by the Ras oncogene. Disruptions in these mechanisms underlie many cancers, making this research crucial for identifying new therapeutic targets and avenues for cancer treatment. His lab employs Drosophila genetics along with biochemistry, molecular biology, and cellular techniques to identify and characterize the functions of new signaling proteins involved in the RAS pathway. His work has significant implications, as understanding the signaling mechanisms of this pathway could lead to novel intervention strategies against cancer. Therrien has received numerous awards for excellence in research, including the Boehringer-Manheim Prize and several recognitions from the University of Montreal. His current research projects focus on characterizing human CNK and KSR proteins in cancer cell motility and exploring new strategies for therapeutic targeting of RAF kinases.
