Biography

Marcel Boyer joined the Department of Economics at the University of Montreal in 1974 after obtaining a doctorate from Carnegie-Mellon University. He is a pioneer in real options analysis in investment evaluation within the context of strategic competition. He is recognized for his work in information economics and achievements in road safety and automobile insurance economics. His research has significantly contributed to the economic analysis of copyright, environmental liability, and antitrust practices. Boyer's work covers finance, industrial organization, water management, cost-sharing, and infrastructure pricing. He co-founded the Interuniversity Centre for Research in Organizational Analysis (CIRANO) and served as its director. He has consulted for various organizations both in Canada and abroad, significantly contributing to public policy debates in Quebec. His numerous awards include the Marcel-Dagenais Prize and the Léon-Gérin Prize. Boyer was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2015 and elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1992.
