Marcel Drabbels studied experimental physics at Radboud University in the Netherlands and obtained his Ph.D. in 1993. He later moved to the University of California at Santa Barbara where he focused on the dynamics of highly vibrationally excited molecules and developed innovative detection techniques for investigating molecule photodissociation. In 1996, he returned to the Netherlands to join the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam, working on new types of infrared imaging streak cameras. In 1997, he was awarded a fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and moved to the Free University of Amsterdam to explore collision dynamics of molecules, initiating photodissociation experiments using ultrafast lasers. Dr. Drabbels has been a senior scientist at EPFL since 1998, where he specializes in spectroscopy and dynamics of nanoscale systems, and has published extensively in this field. In his current role, he serves as the associate director of the Section Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and has been appointed as an adjunct professor in 2021.
