Marcel Drabbels studied experimental physics at Radboud University in the Netherlands, obtaining his Ph.D. in 1993. Following his doctorate, he worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he researched the dynamics of highly vibrationally excited molecules and developed a novel detection technique for investigating molecular photodissociation. He returned to the Netherlands in 1996 to join the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam, focusing on the development of new infrared imaging streak cameras. In 1997, Dr. Drabbels received a fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and moved to the Free University of Amsterdam, where he conducted research on the collision dynamics of molecules and initiated ultrafast laser photodissociation experiments. He joined EPFL in 1998 as a senior scientist, specializing in the spectroscopy and dynamics of nanoscale systems. In 2020, he became the associate director of the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering section, and in 2021, he was promoted to adjunct professor.
