Biography

Marcel Lysgaard Lech is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. He specializes in Ancient Greek drama and its institutions, focusing on Greek tragedy and comedy. His research also explores poetic metaphorical language, humor theory, performance theory, and cognitive pragmatics. Lech's scholarly work examines the literary and historical context of ancient Greek drama, addressing complex philological and social issues associated with Greek theatre. He utilises modern humanistic theories from fields such as cognitive linguistics and cognitive poetics in his analyses. Currently, he is involved in a text-critical edition of Colluthus' 'De raptu Helenae', which requires a nuanced understanding of its unique narrative structure, contributing to classical narratology and insights into the cultural and literary significance of Late Antiquity poets. Throughout his career, Lech has published various articles that interrogate the intricate relationships within Greek tragedies and comedies, illuminating their relevance in contemporary discussions of literature, philosophy, and society.
